Do you know why we wear wedding rings on the fourth finger of the left hand?

According to a tradition believed to have been derived from the Romans, the wedding ring is worn on the left hand ring finger because there was thought to be a vein in the finger, referred to as the 'Vena Amoris' or the 'Vein of Love' said to be directly connected to the heart.

By wearing the ring on the fourth finger of the left hand, a married couple symbolically declares their eternal love for each other. In Western cultures, a wedding ring is traditionally worn on the ring finger.


Why do we have to wear our wedding rings on the fourth finger of your left hand? Why not on another finger or your other hand? Answer: In ancient times, they believed that a vein ran straight from that finger to the heart, so it became traditional to wear the ring on that finger.
